HS Technology Group was asked by an existing multifamily client to expand video surveillance coverage into a remote section of their apartment community. The goal was to improve visibility and security in this area without creating disruption for residents or driving up unnecessary costs.
The new camera locations were too far from the existing network infrastructure that supports the current surveillance system. Extending cabling back to the main system would have required extensive trenching and long cable runs, making the project both costly and time consuming. We also explored a network bridge solution, but that approach introduced its own challenges, including the need to access multiple residential units, coordinate work across several buildings, and bring in an electrician to provide power at multiple endpoints. With an active community, minimizing disruption was a top priority throughout the planning process.
To avoid the need for new network cabling and reduce impact on residents, we implemented a cellular-based camera solution. This allowed the cameras to communicate securely over a cellular connection instead of relying on the property’s existing wired infrastructure. The approach simplified installation significantly while still delivering reliable video performance and full remote access.
By shifting to a cellular-connected design, the client was able to extend surveillance coverage into a challenging area without the complexity of a traditional infrastructure buildout. The end result was a faster, more efficient deployment that maintained system reliability and kept the resident experience front and center.
